Newcastle United’s match winner Federico Fernandez says the Magpies must now build on their match winning mentality after fighting back against Southampton.
United showed great determination to take three points after falling behind early in the first half to a Danny Ings goal.
But second half strikes from the former Argentina international and Jonjo Shelvey earned a back to back victory.
Fernandez said: “The three points mean a lot for us. Everyone is happy.
“We are working hard to keep our shape. We feel OK, we took our chances. (They are) great points.
“We need to enjoy this period and build a winning mentality. You never know where we can arrive at the end of the season but we take it game-by-game.”
United now travel to Burnley as they look to climb beyond their already impressive top 10 place.
