Match of the Day pundits speak out on Marcos Rojo's 'naughty' challenge on Chelsea's Willian

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo should have been sent off during the game against Chelsea at Old Trafford yesterday (Sunday).

That's the verdict of BBC pundits Danny Murphy and Alan Shearer, who have spoken out about the Argentinian defender's challenge on Chelsea star Willian in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

And Shearer was critical of the challenge from the Manchester United man, who received a yellow card from referee Martin Atkinson.

“It is a terrible tackle. It should have been a red card," he said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

Murphy agreed with his fellow pundit, adding that in his opinion, it was a "naughty" challenge.

“I think he did get lucky. He came on pumped up, didn’t he? That’s for sure," he said.

“It is a naughty one when you see it. This one just before is bad enough, and he got away with that one, but you see it on the slow motion and it is a bad one.

And the Match of the Day pundits were not the only ones to say that Rojo could have been sent off, with former Premier League referee Mark Halsey saying that the defender would probably have been sent off , had VAR been in use for the game.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri also had his say on the tackle in his post-match press conference, adding that he felt it was worthy of an "orange card."
