Match of the Day pundit names the key area where Arsenal struggled in West Ham victory

Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has said that Arsenal missed the energy of Matteo Guendouzi or Lucas Torreira in the middle of the park during the 1-0 win over West Ham.

The Gunners took three points from the game after the decision to chalk Alexandre Lacazette's finish off for offside in the 78th minute was overturned after a lengthy VAR consultation.

The assistant referee originally ruled Mesut Ozil to be in an offside position before he flicked the ball to Lacazette, but replays showed it differently with the goal being awarded.

It proved to be the goal that separated the two teams in a close game.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy has said that Arsenal missed the tenacity of the likes of Gunedouzi on the pitch.

“They were all technically good players in there today, but leaving [Matteo] Guendzouzi on the bench, they just lacked that athleticism and West Ham were dominant in that area," he said.

"I think when you play three technical players in the middle of the pitch you can lose that little bit of tanastity. Of course, [Lucas] Torreira is injured as well. That was an area that they struggled in.”

Guendouzi has fallen out of favour at Arsenal in recent weeks, with this being the third week of the Frenchman not being included in the starting eleven.

Torreira is likely to be out of action for sometime after suffering a fractured ankle in the FA Cup win over Portsmouth on Monday.
