Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy says Crystal Palace were 'so easy to play against' against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Friday night as he highlighted one weakness that Leeds United can exploit.
The Eagles suffered a 2-0 defeat at Molineux as goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Daniel Podence condemned Roy Hodgson's side to a third defeat of the season.
Hodgson's tactics that evening have been heavily criticised by Murphy, who says Wolves were able to use their strength on the flanks to dominate their visitors.
I’ve never seen Roy’s team set-up like this, especially in the first half, it was so easy to play against," he said, speaking on Match of the Day.
"Three narrow up front, three narrow in midfield, space for the wing-backs was ridiculous. They were so easy to play against, it wasn’t a Roy Hodgson performance or a Palace performance.
“The switch was on constantly, the full-backs couldn’t get out because their back four was playing against Wolves’ front three. It looked compact, they couldn’t get through the middle, it’s fine when you’ve got full-backs high but they couldn’t come out because they were marking the two wingers.
“All the time in the world to play, all the time in the world to make runs. Yes there was quality runs and quality passes but they’re too late, they can’t get back.
"They did get better in the second half but I just couldn’t understand the thought process and the tactical element in what they were trying to do."
Being able to utilise width will be music to Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United's ears, given the importance of the Whites' full-backs and wide forwards in their style of play.
Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling have been two of Leeds' best performers this season, while the likes of Jack Harrison, Helder Costa, Ian Poveda and new signing Raphinha offer strength and depth further forward.
The Brazilian winger was missing against Wolves with an angle injury, with Bielsa set to give an update on his fitness in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
