Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas has hailed Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne as the 'best midfielder in the world' following Saturday's 3-1 victory against Leicester City.
Pep Guardiola's side fell behind to Jamie Vardy's opening goal but City responded with goals from Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus providing the perfect return before Christmas.
Kevin De Bruyne's display was also instrumental for City in their victory, as he made space for Mahrez on the right and provided the assist for Jesus' goal.
As a result, the Belgian was singled out for praise by Jenas and the former Tottenham midfielder dubbed De Bruyne as the best in the world in his position.
“He’s one of those players, like all the greats, who seem to always have time and space around them. Actually, when this Manchester City team functions at his best, there’s not much you can do to stop it and Leicester found that out the hard way," he told Match of the Day.
“He never takes the easy option, that’s what I love about him, he spots the run and says he wants to hurt the opposition, wants to get in behind. Him finding time and space isn’t a coincidence, he works harder, he’s got the drive to get into those areas. He knows he’s got time and space because he’s already painted the picture in his head. This is why the team functioned so well.
“Towards the end it was just Kevin De Bruyne’s showboating time, I loved every minute of it. It was a fantastic display from probably the best midfielder in the world right now.”
