Match of the Day pundit delivers his verdict on Cardiff City penalty appeal in Fulham clash

Cardiff City should have been awarded a penalty in their 1-0 defeat against Fulham yesterday (Saturday) at Craven Cottage.

That's the verdict of former Crystal Palace and Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who was speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day about a clash between Aleksandar Mitrovic and Cardiff's Sean Morrison.

The Fulham striker appeared to have his arms around Morrison as a ball was floated into the box by Lee Peltier in the first half of the game, but Cardiff's protests were waved away by referee Chris Kavanagh.

And Wright said he felt it should have been a spot kick for Neil Warnock's side.

“It’s a foul. What’s annoying for me is the referee’s position," he said.

Fulham star refuses to commit his future to the club following Premier League relegation

"I don’t know what more you have to do to see that is a foul. When you look at where he is… what more do you need? That will be frustrating. It was early in the game, but it could have made a difference."

It was a damaging defeat for Cardiff City's hopes of survival as Ryan Babel scored what former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer described as "a wonder goal" in the second half of the game to give Fulham a third straight win since their relegation was confirmed.

The result leaves Cardiff's hopes of avoiding relegation looking slim, with the Bluebirds now four points behind Brighton & Hove Albion with just two games left to play.
