Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer names the one Spurs player who was 'lazy' in Brighton loss

Alan Shearer will not be alone in blasting Tottenham for their performance against Brighton on Saturday.

Spurs were left licking their wounds once more as they were soundly beaten 3-0 by the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium.

It has been a bad start to the season all told and a real disappointment after the club reached a historic first ever Champions League final last season.

The big statistic revealed on Match of the Day on Saturday night was that Tottenham's pressing game had faltered in the last season and a half.

Spurs are averaging just over 10 presses per game so far this season, compared with between 13 and 16 in the last four years.

Alan Shearer blasted the players for their poor run of form.

He said: "They were outhought, outfought, outrun. Brighton ran 7.5km more than Tottenham, they didn’t have any energy. So many times, two or three years ago we used to say ‘look at the pressing game Tottenham are playing’.

"Over the last year or so that isn’t happening at all. There was a lack of heart and a lack of fight from some of his players today. Some of them have stopped running for him.

Pochettino on his future at Spurs

"Look at that from Lamela [for the first goal]. That is nothing.

"The high-press we mentioned, no. Players are walking and jogging, there is no press whatsoever, it’s too easy to get out. They lose the first ball, lose the second ball, take a touch turn, turn, take a touch.

"[Tanguy] Ndombele, this is not closing down, this is lazy, it’s fair too easy for Brighton and they get out with one pass and they’re straight into that back four again."
