Manchester City get top billing on Match of the Day tonight after the Premier League title race took another dramatic twist on Boxing Day.

Mohamed Salah struck from the penalty spot as Liverpool increased their lead at the top of the table to six points with a 4-0 win over Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp's men ran out convincing winners at Anfield as second-placed Man City lost for the second successive game to slip to third.

Ricardo Pereira dented Man City's title challenge with a stunning winner as Leicester gained revenge for their EFL Cup quarter-final defeat over the reigning champions.

Meanwhile, Tottenham did their best to prove it will not be a two-horse race for the title as they romped to a 5-0 win over Bournemouth.

Leicester City 2-1 Man City

Bernardo had given the visitors an early lead at the King Power Stadium, but Marc Albrighton headed the Foxes, who won at Chelsea at the weekend, level to set up a grandstand finish.

They got their reward nine minutes from time when Ricardo smashed a long-range effort into the top corner with Fabian Delph's late red card ensuring City lost 2-1.

Tottenham 5-0 Bournemouth

Mauricio Pochettino's men raced into a 3-0 lead inside 35 minutes as goals from Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura left the Cherries, who then lost skipper Simon Francis to a potentially serious injury, in deep trouble.

Harry Kane increased Spurs' lead shortly after the hour mark and Son helped himself to a second with 20 minutes left as Spurs leapfrogged City into second place.

Man Utd 3-1 Huddersfield

Paul Pogba's double ensured new Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it two wins from two as his side fought past stubborn Huddersfield.

Nemanja Matic fired the home side in front after Victor Lindelof's 28th-minute header had been cleared off the line, but it was Pogba's two goals after 64 and 78 minutes which wrapped up the points.

Mathias Jorgensen pulled one back for the Terriers with two minutes left on the clock, but United eased home 3-1.

Burnley 1-5 Everton

Lucas Digne scored twice as Everton responded to their 6-2 drubbing by Spurs at Goodison Park by condemning struggling Burnley to a 5-1 home defeat.

Yerry Mina's header, a Digne free-kick and Gylfi Sigurdsson's penalty left the Toffees in complete control with just 22 minutes played.

Ben Gibson's first goal for the Clarets reduced the deficit before the break, but further efforts from Digne and Richarlison completed a bad afternoon for the hosts.

Brighton 1-1 Arsenal

In the tea-time kick-off, Jurgen Locadia ended Brighton's three-game losing streak as Arsenal were frustrated on the South Coast.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the Gunners ahead after just seven minutes gone, but Locadia levelled before the break to clinch a 1-1 draw.

Watford 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea overcame Watford 2-1 in the late kick-off thanks to a double from Eden Hazard.

Hazard rounded goalkeeper Ben Foster in first-half stoppage time to put the Blues in front before Roberto Pereyra scored a superb equaliser two minutes later.

But the Chelsea playmaker restored the visitors' lead from the penalty spot in the 58th minute after he was fouled by Foster.

Best of the rest...

Cardiff emerged from their trip to Crystal Palace with a hard-fought 0-0 draw, while Fulham climbed off the bottom of the table despite conceding late on against Wolves at Craven Cottage.

Substitute Ryan Sessegnon had given them a 74th-minute lead, but Romain Saiss secured a 1-1 draw with five minutes remaining.
