Matalan's Alder Hey 2022 family pyjamas launch with colourful new design

Today we can show you what this year’s Matalan Alder Hey family pyjamas look like as the 2022 collection goes on sale.

For nine years Matalan has released a pyjama collection to raise money for Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Charity. The campaign has become hugely popular, with many shoppers buying multiple pairs for the whole family to wear in the run-up to the festive season.

The pyjamas always have a different design, with fans excited to see what each new collection will look like. In previous years we’ve seen spots, stars, stripes and positive slogans, with celebrities including Alesha Dixon, Denise Van Outen and Mark Wright amongst those who have supported the campaign.

This year’s pyjama range is expected to be well received, with the PJs featuring colourful rainbow stripes on the sleeves and bottoms, and the slogan ‘Let’s Be Happy Together’ featured in the centre of the top in eye-catching colours. You can buy it here and in Matalan stores.

There’s unisex pyjamas for adults and children and even an outfit for your pet. Importantly, 100% of all profits from the campaign will go to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Charity which will continue to support their Surgical Neonatal Appeal.

Children across the UK were given the opportunity to help design and inspire the 2022 pyjama set. The winner of the competition was Maiya Ariss-Johnson, seven, from Bootle. Her uplifting design also features Alder Hey mascot ‘Oli The Elephant'.

Some of the 2022 charity ambassadors for the campaign include four-month-old Frankie and family, five-month-old Niamh and family and Charlie, aged two, and family, who have all been treated and cared for by the amazing clinicians and staff at Alder Hey. The overall theme of togetherness and coming #TogetherForAlderHey is a key factor behind all the Matalan X Alder Hey campaigns.

Fiona Ashcroft, CEO of Alder Hey Children’s Charity, said: “The annual Matalan and Alder Hey pyjama campaign has become a fixture in people’s diaries and we are sure to see a massive demand again this year with the brilliant rainbow striped design. Our amazing Matalan family have always supported the work staff at Alder Hey do and their continued support of the Surgical Neonatal Appeal this year will help make a huge difference in keeping families together when they need it most.”

The Surgical Neonatal Appeal is in support of the new state-of-the-art Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is being built on the site of Alder Hey. In partnership with Liverpool Women’s Hospital, the facility has been designed with technology and enhancements in mind, giving babies and families the best environment in which to thrive, all of which is helped by charitable support.

The new unit will be the first of its kind in the UK to provide Family Integrated Care and will provide a safer service for babies, reducing the number of transfers of newborns between both hospitals by 50%, and allowing neonatal babies to receive the treatment and expert care needed with their families close by. The unit will offer 22 neonatal cots and 18 individual family rooms where parents stay alongside their newborns 24 hours a day.

Jason Hargreaves, from Matalan, said: “Alder Hey is such a special place, and I am so proud that Matalan, and our customers, can support this fantastic charity by raising vital funds, through our annual campaign. Every year I look forward to seeing the new pyjama design, and this year’s no different! I can’t wait to see families across the country wearing their colourful stripes in support of Alder Hey, so from me, a big thank you to everyone who gets involved and takes part.”
