Matalan launches early summer sale due to rubbish weather

Matalan has discounted stock earlier than planned amid the UK's disappointing weather.

The value high street brand is a favourite with shoppers and is now offering up to half price off sale.

Bargain hunters can now enjoy a summer splurge and get some lower prices in stores and online.

The store is offering the discounts across it's women's, mens, kids and home sections with some unmissable reductions.

Chief executive Jason Hargreaves said: "An improvement to the awful spring weather failed to materialise until late June, the May market being one of the toughest we have seen in a number of years."

Hargreaves warned that the disappointing weather had led to rivals cutting prices on seasonal summer stocks sooner than anticipated, pushing Matalan to use similar promotions.

"As a result, the market began to discount earlier and to a greater extent than expected, and we ourselves had to react and begin promoting seasonal stocks."

He added that Matalan would continue to refurbish its stores and improve its online offering, as part of a "customer-centric approach".
