Matalan issues recall for various bikini tops

This is Matalan’s third item recall this summer - (PA Archive)

High‑street retailer Matalan has issued an immediate recall of seven styles of bikini tops following reports that their underwiring may protrude from the casing, posing a risk of cuts or scratches to wearers.

The Spring Mainstream DD variant (F422690) and the Spring Mainstream Underwire model (product code F422691) are among the recalled swimwear.

The MS DD Bikini Top Multi (F422607), MS Underwire Bikini Top Multi (F422627), and Navy Floral Cupped design (F422601) are also impacted.

Two additional styles form part of the recall: the Mainstream Postcard DD (F422724) and Mainstream Postcard UW (F422725). Each product carries multiple barcode variations according to different sizes.

The impacted items were available for purchase in Matalan stores from November 14, 2024 through to June 26, 2025.

Customers are advised to stop using any of the affected bikini tops immediately. They can be returned to any Matalan store for a full refund, with no receipt required.

The Government instructed: “The products present a risk of injuries as the underwiring can protrude from the casing during use, which may result in the user receiving scratches or cuts to the skin.”

“If you have purchased any of the affected bikini tops, please stop using it immediately and return it to your nearest Matalan store for a full refund. You will not need to produce a receipt.”

Matalan has also set up a dedicated Customer Care Team for enquiries, accessible by phone at 0333 004 4444 or via email at customercareceo@matalan.co.uk.

This latest recall follows two earlier safety notices issued by Matalan in recent months.

Various boys’ swimwear items—including a shark rash vest set, seersucker swim shorts, and tie‑dye swim shorts—were recalled in June due to risks of entrapment and strangulation from excessively long draw cords.

A novelty cup featuring bunny ears was also recalled over concerns that the ears could cause eye injuries, failing to comply with safety standards.

All recalls, including the bikini tops stem from non‑compliance with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, which aim to protect consumers from dangerous products.

Matalan has removed all affected items from stores and apologised for any inconvenience caused, reaffirming its commitment to safety and quality.
