Mat Ryan has already displayed the ideal characteristics in which to be an successful Arsenal signing ahead of his permanent switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Having joined the Gunners on-loan in January from Brighton, the Australia international looks primed for a longer stay in North London, with The Sun reporting that he is set to join the club on a free transfer this summer.
Despite having only made three appearances for Arsenal since his initial arrival in the January transfer window, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remained impressed with Ryan, suggesting that his attitude saw him immediately fit in at the club.
Talking in a press conference following confirmation of the stopper’s initial arrival, the Spaniard said: “He’s settled really quickly. I was really impressed when I talked to him.
“He’s really focused, really engaged with what we want to do. He’s a very professional guy and he’s coming here to compete with Alex and with Bernd.
“That’s the mentality and the desire that we want for any player that joins our club.”
Ryan is set to re-join Arsenal with the goalkeeping position uncertain as Bernd Leno has been linked with a switch away from the Emirates Stadium, despite inconsistent form throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
Meanwhile, Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson does not yet look a viable option for the No.1 shirt at the club.
It has otherwise been reported that the Gunners are looking to sign Ajax’s Andre Onana, with a deal suggested to be close.
However, the Cameroonian remains banned from football for breaking doping guidelines earlier this year.
He has appealed the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but it remains to be seen whether that will be lifted ahead of a move to the Emirates Stadium.
