Mat Ryan drops massive Celtic transfer clue with cheeky haggis quip after Real Sociedad poser

In-demand Mat Ryan has left the door open for a move to Celtic - despite reports that a move to Real Sociedad was all but done.

New boss Ange Postecoglou is understood to be keen on a reunion with the Brighton keeper having named him his Australia first choice at the 2014 World Cup.

It was a problem position last season with Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Connor Hazard all having a chance between the sticks.

However, several Spanish outlets had claimed he was destined for a return to La Liga following his loan spell at Arsenal last term.

Now it seems talks of a deal may have been premature with Ryan leaving the door open for a reunion with Postecoglou in the Scottish Premiership.

The 29-year-old was put on the spot on Fox Australia about his next move and if he agreed a contract to the San Sebastian.

He was asked if he was more in the mood for Haggis or Paella - with the follow up question asked him if he was keen on the Hoops or Sociedad.

Ryan laughed: “Haggis every day of the week!"

“Nah, at the minute I’m on the fence. I’m not sure what I fancy, what my tastebuds are craving just now. I’ll have to wait and see.

“At the minute, just nothing. I’m just waiting and seeing. Until, I guess, I get a bit of a craving to find out.”

Ryan admitted he has a great relationship with Postecoglou as he admitted Celtic is a club that interests him.

“I mean, it’s obviously always flattering to have interest and all that. There’s been a lot of speculation about it, I guess, people putting two and two together.

“Realising that I guess I’m probably at the stage of my career now where [a move] is probably going to be happening given the circumstances at Brighton.

“And obviously, given the relationship between Ange and I in the past, in the national team, I think there’s a lot of people putting two and two together. It’s interesting, that move may come about.

“I’m not really sure what’s going, just waiting and seeing. And trying to give the diplomatic answer.”
