Mat Ryan 'considered' for Celtic's first signing under Ange Postecoglou as new boss targets a goalkeeper

Mat Ryan could be Ange Postecolgou’s first Celtic signing as the new man hunts for a new number one.

The Brighton player has fallen out of favour at the Amex and is understood to be looking for an escape in order to keep his World Cup hopes for next year alive.

And Postecolgou could be his saviour, with the Scottish Sun reporting that he is considering a move for his compatriot.

The Hoops have struggled for a consistent, reliable ‘keeper since Craig Gordon rejected a new deal in order to return to Hearts.

Big money arrival Vasilis Barkas hasn’t lived up to expectations while Scott Bain has been out injured.

Youngster Conor Hazard came in and made himself the Scottish Cup final hero, but Postecoglou wants a more experienced alternative.

Ryan was included in the Socceroos’ 2014 World Cup squad and was an Asian Cup winner with his country the following year.

Prior to joining the South Coast club in 2017, the 29-year-old had spells with Bruges, Genk and Valencia.

But he now finds himself behind Robert Sanchez in the picking order under Graham Potter and would likely welcome the chance to move on, especially to work with a manager that knows and trusts him.
