April 13--AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Jordan Spieth had it dialed in. From his blistering-hot 8-under par round of 64 in Thursday's first round to Sunday evening's final putt, the 21-year-old Texan not only proved himself a worthy contender at the year's first major, he cemented himself as a Masters champion and a green jacket winner.
Spieth was hardly threatened in Sunday's final round, carding a 2-under 70 finishing with a 72-hole total of 18-under -- his 18 under ties the best score ever.
At 21 years and 8 months old, Spieth is just a smidge older than Tiger Woods was when he claimed his first Masters win. But Spieth's score bettered the 18-under par total Woods posted back in 1997 en route to a 12-shot victory.
Spieth also became the Masters' first wire-to-wire winner since 1976 when Raymond Floyd pulled off the feat.
Tiger Woods finished at five-under after shooting a 73 on Sunday, while Rory McIlroy finished at -12 after shooting a 66.
Woods stirred up quite a frenzy on social media when talking about an injury to his right hand. After an errant drive at the ninth hole, Woods struck a hidden tree root while hitting his second shot off the pine straw.
Woods screamed in pain and let the club fly out of his hand. He shook his hand walking toward the green but managed to salvage par on the way to a closing 1-over 73.
Afterward, when asked about the injury on CBS, Woods said "the bone popped out."
