Masters: Tiger Woods survives scary collision with security guard

In one of the strangest twists in recent Masters history, a member of the security staff slipped and collided with Tiger Woods while trying to contain the crowd midway through Woods’ round on Friday. Woods limped away from the incident – leaving fans fearing that he may have reinjured his knee or back – but appeared to be unharmed after stretching his right ankle and went on to drain a birdie putt.

Woods pulled his drive at the 14th tee for the second consecutive day, and decided to attempt a very dangerous escape shot through tree limbs to try and reach the green. Woods pulled off the shot, and the gallery surged around him, as fans rushed to try to see where Woods’ ball landed. A crew member ran to hold back the patrons and slipped on the muddy grass, clipping Woods’ ankle as he fell.

Woods gingerly walked up the fairway and appeared to test his knee and ankle, but continued on with his round. His shot out of the trees was a miraculous recovery, given the position of his tee shot, and he went on to sink the birdie putt to get to 5-under for his round, just two shots behind the leaders at 7-under.

Woods said after his round that “accidents happen.”

[UPDATE]: Woods pulled within one shot of the lead by drilling another long bomb at the par-3 15th
