Masters: Golf fans roasted Rory McIlroy after pegging his dad with an errant shot

What are the chances?

Rory McIlroy somehow managed to hit his father, Gerry, on an approach shot on the par-4 seventh hole during the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday. McIlroy, swinging with a 7-iron, tried to draw his shot around a patch of trees, and ended up pushing the ball into the crowd to the right of the green. That’s where his dad was standing. Gerry appeared to take the ball in the thigh — thank goodness it was just the thigh — and he limped away after the ball struck him.

McIlroy finished the hole with a bogey. Here’s a look at the shot.

Fans tore into McIlroy for his rough open to the Masters, with a really brutal day on Thursday. He was +4 after 12 holes.

Of all the random things to happen on a golf course, a pro golfer hitting his farther has to be high up there.
