Masterplan outlined for Digbeth estate

New homes, offices, bars and cultural space are all set to built as part of a major overhaul of a Birmingham city centre district.

Oval Real Estate is unveiling its plans today for the wholesale regeneration in Digbeth where it owns dozens of buildings including the Custard Factory and Fazeley Studios which it bought in 2017.

It has now opened up a consultation with local parties to outline some of the work it plans to carry out over the next ten to 15 years.

It follows the unveiling in June of 'Digbeth Vision', a masterplan document for the area which outlined proposals by Oval Real Estate and fellow Digbeth landowners the Gooch Estate and Homes England.

London-based Oval said it anticipated its development work would include residential units, offices, shops, restaurants, cafés, new public realm and arts and culture spaces to host events and activities.

An outline planning application is due to be submitted to Birmingham City Council early next year.

Steve Sanders, head of development at Oval Real Estate, said: "Digbeth is not like anywhere else in Birmingham.

"It has a unique quality that has attracted a thriving creative commercial community.

"Further investment is required to maintain Digbeth's renaissance and we plan to do this in a way which retains the unique fabric of the area while preparing for the future."

Oval is hosting a consultation event today from 3pm to 8pm at Arch 21, in Gibb Street, Digbeth, which is open to residents, local businesses and all interested parties.

Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions.

The plans can also be viewed and comments submitted online by visiting www.consultdigbeth.co.uk before December 5.
