"Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London," an exhibition showcasing treasured works from the National Gallery in London opened Thursday at the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, Tokyo.
"Sunflowers" by Van Gogh and works by Vermeer and Rembrandt, normally only seen at the London gallery, are among the 61 paintings that are shown in Japan for the first time.
The exhibition organized by The Yomiuri Shimbun and others will continue through Oct. 18.
As a precaution to prevent the coronavirus from spreading, the Tokyo museum, which was closed until Wednesday because of COVID-19, is limiting the number of guests admitted into the exhibition. Admission will be limited to those who purchased their tickets in advance or received an invitation, until Sunday.
Those who wish to visit the museum starting on Tuesday will need to buy their tickets in advance with a set time and date online or elsewhere. The museum does not sell tickets to this exhibition. Reserved tickets are also available to advance ticket holders as well as those who received an invitation.
The exhibition can next be seen at the National Museum of Art, Osaka, from Nov. 3.
