'Masterclass incoming!' - Arsenal fans react to what Mikel Arteta has done against Aston Villa

Mikel Arteta's team selection for this afternoon's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa has got a number of Arsenal fans talking.

The Gunners arrive at Villa Park on the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves on Tuesday evening where they finished the game with nine men after David Luiz and Bernd Leno were sent-off.

That loss ended Arsenal's recent resurgence in the league.

Without a defeat in the competition since losing at Everton in December, Arteta's side were well worth their 1-0 lead given to them by Nicolas Pepe, but David Luiz's red card and a subsequent successful penalty from Ruben Neves turned the game on its head.

Joao Moutinho would complete the turnaround early in the second half before Leno's sending off for deliberate handball capped off a miserable evening for the Gunners.

But in an attempt to get his side back on the winning trail in the Premier League and to avoid back-to-back defeats, Arteta has made changes to the side which started against Wolves.

Two of which were enforced as Mat Ryan makes his Arsenal debut in place of Leno, while Gabriel Magalhaes is chosen to partner Rob Holding in central defence in David Luiz's absence.

As expected, the in-form Nicolas Pepe continues in attack which means there is no place in the starting XI for captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after making his return to action four days ago.

Arsenal XI: Ryan; Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel, Cedric; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Smith Rowe, Pepe; Lacazette

Most of the reaction from Arsenal supporters on social media has centered around the inclusions of Pepe and Ryan in the lineup.

Take a look at some of the best responses on Twitter...

@PatrickTimmons1 said: "I’m pleased that Arteta stuck with Pépé today. He’s in a good run of form and dropping him would kill his confidence. Aubameyang is a fantastic player, but he should have to fight to earn his place back like anyone else. Healthy competition will only benefit the squad."

@Kellysome4real said: "Pépé deserves to start. Good call from Arteta. Aubameyang should fight for his place back. Gabriel have a chance to regain his CB spot."

@_IKENNA_said: "I love that so far...Arteta not forcing Aubameyang back into the lineup automatically."
