Masterchef star labels new Leeds city centre food stall 'a gem of the city'

A celebrity chef has given his seal of approval to a new food stall that's opened in Leeds this week.

Karpaty Polish bakery has arrived at Kirkgate Market and is dishing out freshly baked bread, cheesecake and a number of other delicacies to customers in the historic venue in Leeds city centre.

The new bakery is in the 1904 Hall, next to some of the longest-standing food stalls.

Staff at the bakery began serving food for the first time this week (Thursday), but it already has a celebrity fan in the shape of 2018 Masterchef semi-finalist Anthony O'Shaughnessy - who was a big fan of the traditional recipes on offer.

"Visited the new Karpaty Polish bakery in Leeds Markets on my lunchbreak," tweeted Anthony.

"Bagged myself a kremowka (custard cream sandwich) and sernik (proper cheesecake).

"I think it’s going to be a gem of the city market! And the girls speak Polish too!"
