MasterChef's Gregg Wallace planning health regime after putting on half a stone at Christmas

MasterChef star Gregg Wallace has said that he's not worried after "super indulging" at Christmas and putting on half a stone as he now knows how he can shed the weight.

The BBC presenter has managed to lose four and a half stone since he was issued a warning by his doctor in 2017 that he was heading towards a heart attack.

However, he didn't do it through dieting - simply through eating three large healthy meals a day and limiting his snacking and boozing.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Gregg said: "I started looking around thinking 'how can I be healthier?' and I tried lots of diets and it didn't particularly work for me. I was hungry most of the time.

"Bit by bit I taught myself what was healthy and what I could eat and couldn't eat, but it completely changed my life."

Speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Bacon, he revealed that he had been "overweight and boozing a lot" when he visited his doctor to have some tests done.

He explained that his doctor was very worried after his cholesterol levels reached 14, when a comfortable level would be five.

Gregg said: "He said, if you don't change, you're heading for a heart attack."

Initially, he tried out some diets out, but that none of them worked and turned to healthy eating, going on to gym workouts to tone up.

Gregg admitted that he'd put on some weight over Christmas (ITV)

"You've got to lose the weight first," he said. "Exercising is not how you lose weight."

However, like most of us over the festive period, Gregg has put on a few pounds by eating one too many mince pies.

"I put on half a stone over Christmas, but I know now how to get rid of it," Gregg said.
