Masterchef finalist Jonathan Hawthorne's message to Leeds ahead of final next week

A Leeds chef has left an emotional message to the people of his home city after reaching the BBC show's finals.

Jonathan Hawthorne will be in the show's finals on Tuesday, competing for the win for Masterchef: The Professionals after impressing on the BBC show throughout.

And on Friday evening, the father-of-one who is the head chef at Leeds city centre restaurant Vice and Virtue, left one last message to his army of fans in the city.

Posting to more than 100,000 people in the Facebook community group, Leedsplace, Jonathan said:"WE DID IT! WE ARE GOING TO THE BIG DANCE!

"Masterchef: the Professionals finalist chef Jono! All I wanted to do was make Leeds/Yorkshire proud and get us to the finals.

"Today I feel like I have achieved that I’m so happy and proud.

"What you see on the show is years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication to my craft/career, this is not just a overnight success, this is years of graft/hard work all unraveling.

"Thank you all so much for the support and love.

"I'll see you on Tuesday 9pm BBC one, Bring on the finals!"

Earlier this week, he told LeedsLive he has put  "years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication" into his career.

As intense as the experience has been so far, Jonathan - more commonly known as Jono - has remained laid back.

He said: "I’m just having fun and being myself. What you see is what you get, I’m just Jono from Leeds that can cook a few bits and pieces."

Masterchef: The Professionals is on BBC One at 9pm on Tuesday.
