MasterChef Australia: Back To Win has copped a series of mixed reviews from fans after the beloved cooking comp featured comedy trio Sooshi Mango as its guest hosts.
One of the best things about the MasterChef series is the appearance of celebrity guests who jump on to live their best foodie lives. Australia’s version of the comp has hosted a plethora of icons, including Katy Perry, Prince Charles and Kylie Kwong.
On Monday, MasterChef Australia: Back To Win hosted comedy trio Sooshi Mango — which consists of brothers Carlo and Joe Salanitri and their friend Andrew Manfre — who graced the kitchen as Italian nonnas for Viral Week.
Playing their iconic nonna characters, the trio chucked in their two cents on the MasterChef judges’ critiques.
While the trio clocked a lot of laughs from the contestants and the judges, some fans have been left divided by their appearance.

Viewers who prowl r/MasterchefAU took to the platform to describe the trio’s cameo, describing it as “dog shit” and “cringeworthy”.
“This was probably the weakest MSAU episode in years,” one Redditor wrote.
“I thought it was just me. I checked out some videos, and they do skits as various characters… Here, without a script, they were at sea. Sort of painfully trying to be funny. I hope the rest of the viral week improves,” another dished.
“I NEVER fast forward through MasterChef AU, and I fast-forwarded through 90% of this. It was horrible and cringeworthy. Don’t do this again. It wasn’t funny,” a third wrote.

Despite the harsh (and I mean HARSH) critiques, some Aussies defended the comedy group, stating that it’s a bit of fun for the Italian and Mediterranean community.
“If you’re from the Italian/Mediterranean regions, you understand the humour and appreciate it because it is our culture, and we poke fun at ourselves. I’m Italian and love it because I live it,” one person shared.
“I’m Italian and thought it was hilarious. Just like my nonna,” another commented.
“In places with big Italian communities, yes. [Their shows] sell out every time they come to Mildura. I actually met them once and they’re really great guys,” wrote a third.
While the trio’s comedy sketch might not have landed with some viewers, the trio definitely fit in with Viral Week. Sooshi Mango has a combined social media following of 4.3 million punters.
They’ve got the food experience and the virality, so it definitely makes sense, IMO! But as someone who grew up around Chris Lilley and Jo Koy discourse, I also get the criticisms.
MasterChef Australia: Back to Win is currently airing on Channel 10 and 10Play from Sunday to Wednesday.
