The wonderful tributes to Ryszard Kapuściński, who died this week, did not impress one US commentator, Jack Shafer. He was unmoved by laudatory obituaries in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the Daily Telegraph. But Shafer contends that Kapuściński routinely made up things in his books, accusing him of telling lies or indulging in "magical realism". (Via Slate.com)
