'Master Harold'...and the boys at the National Theatre: First look at pictures of Roy Alexander Weise's production

The first pictures of the National Theatre’s production of ‘Master Harold’...and the boys have been released.

Roy Alexander Weise directs Athol Fugard’s semi-autobiographical play, which opens on next week and is set in apartheid-era South Africa where two employees of St George’s Park Tea Room rehearse for the finals of a ballroom dancing competition.

It plays out over the course of one afternoon, exploring the relationship between the two servants, Sam and Willie, and their employers’ son Hally, or Master Harold.

Hammed Animashaun, who recently played Puck in the Bridge's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Lucian Msamati, who played Salieri in the acclaimed Amadeus, return to the National Theatre stage as Willie and Sam. Anson Boon will play Hally.

There is set and costume design from Rajha Shakiry, lighting by Paule Constable, movement by Shelley Maxwell and sound by Giles Thomas.

‘Master Harold’...and the boys runs at the National Theatre from October 1-December 17, nationaltheatre.org.uk
