"Massively underrated" Newcastle United fans delighted as Ciaran Clark pens new two-year contract

Newcastle United fans have unanimously voiced their happiness after seeing Ciaran Clark pen a new two-year deal at the club.

The defender signed from Aston Villa in 2016 and was out of contract at the end of the season.

Clark has impressed since returning from injury and has started Newcastle 's last 10 Premier League match, taking his tally up to 103 for the Magpies.

The 31-year-old's consistent displays have earned him another two seasons at St James' Park and supporters are delighted to see an "underrated defender" commit his future to the club.

Clark and boss Steve Bruce explained their delight at getting the deal over the line.

"It's a brilliant feeling and I'm delighted that I've managed to get it signed," Clark told NUFC TV.

"My contract was ending in the summer; for me, I was trying to stay more focused on the games, getting back involved this season and trying to play games, and I've managed to do that over the last few weeks.

"To be back playing was the real aim for me, then the contract has followed, so I'm delighted to concentrate now on the next couple of years."

"I'm delighted Ciaran has signed a new deal," Bruce told NUFC TV.

"First and foremost, he is a very talented defender and he gives us great balance as a naturally left-footed centre-half.

"He has also become a very consistent performer and I'm pleased to see his hard work and commitment rewarded."

Dwight Gayle, Jacob Murphy and four other Newcastle players remain out of contract this summer.
