Massive warships dock in Liverpool

A number of massive warships have docked in Liverpool this weekend.

Two of the ships, belonging to the Danish and Norweigan navies , are now berthed at the Cruise Liner Terminal at Liverpool's Pier Head.

It is believed that both vessels have moored in the North West ahead of a NATO Exercise.

One of the ships, HDMS Thetis is a Thetis-class ocean patrol vessel belonging to the Royal Danish Navy.

It was previously used as a platform for operations taking place in the waters near Greenland before serving as a protection vessel for the World Food Programme, carrying food aid off the Horn of Africa.

The second ship moored at the Pier Head is Norwegian Navy ship Hinnøy.

People heading to the docks this weekend will be able to catch a glimpse of the ships that appeared quietly earlier on Friday.

The arrival of the ships in different cities is often kept low key for security reasons but the boats have been beautifully lit to allow passersby to take photographs and see the goings on on-board.

Pictures and video taken by ECHO photographer Andy Teebay show the sheer size of the ships and you can even spot crew working away on deck.
