'Massive step for us': Bristol Rovers fans delighted as club announce training ground plans

After sitting untouched for three years, Bristol Rovers have finally announced that The Colony training ground will be ready in time for next season and fans are delighted.

Gas supporters see the news as a huge step forward for the club, with the training ground and a new stadium being points of concern for the club in recent years.

Rovers announced that the 28-acre site off the M5 at Almondsbury will be ready in time for next season and will be building first-team training pitches and a training area, along with a gym, medical area, changing facilities, staff offices and communal areas.

Owner Wael Al Qadi said: "This significant investment into our infrastructure, in these difficult economic times, will undoubtedly form a core part of progression on and off pitch moving forward.

"As stated in my previous letter, we want to bring through young, exciting talent and we hope that this new development will help ensure that we can do that."

Fans thanked Al Qadi after the announcement and were ecstatic that the club were taking steps to develop their infrastructure.

See how the supporters reacted below.

Sam Smith : 2020 is one strange year.

Elliot Owens : Wow! A massive step in the right direction. Well done Wael Al Qadi!

Franks_Official : Forgot we even still had it..... Result that!

Steve Northcroft : Great news. Thanks Wael, onwards and upwards.

Daniel Sheppard : Positive news! Starting to make the correct progress our club needs.

Ben Norman: Great news. Although a new stadium is a must, the need to develop new talent in house is a much more sensible option especially at this time.

BlueSideofTown: Really great to hear that we’ll have a permanent base of operations for the squad that we can call our own. Thank you Wael Al Qadi.

Simmo: Fantastic news. 2020 is indeed a weird year.

Andy Webber: Had to check like five times this wasn't fake!

ClothesLine: Tremendous news! Rovers fans have certainly dished out a fair amount of understandable criticism over the logistical side of things at the club, so credit to all involved, as this is a massive step for us. Well done and thank you.

Briony Harris: Absolutely brilliant news, this is a really positive step in the right direction and Wael deserves huge credit especially with how tough things are the the moment with the economy.

J.R. Morris: That is going to be a quick turnaround - are we just expecting a few pitches and a small clubhouse? Great news though, whatever happens.

Barry Lane: So does this mean there is something happening about a stadium? Previously said no decision on training ground until the stadium situation was sorted!

The announcement had some fans also questioning whether an announcement on a new stadium was imminent.

Gas: Mint news! Didn’t they always say that the training facility would have to come hand in hand with the stadium project.. more news soon?

Jason Michael: This is great news, even more important than a stadium. About time though.
