Rose Polge: Massive search operation under way as junior doctor goes missing in Torquay

A massive search operation is underway for a junior doctor who has not been seen for two days.

Dr Rose Polge, who works at a hospital in Torquay, Devon, has not been seen since Friday.

The coastguard and Devon police have been searching for Dr Polge after her car was found near Ansteys Cove - a local beauty spot.

More than 100 search and rescue personnel have been involved in the operation since Friday evening.

The search for the 25-year-old, who works at Torbay Hospital, has been hampered by strong winds but has gone ahead.

HM Coastguard teams in the area are thought to have been stood down on Saturday after an extensive search of the local cliffs and beaches but police are still searching for the missing medic.

PC Pete Giesens, search manager, told the Torquay Herald Express: "The search is ongoing.

"It has been a multi-agency effort with in excess of 50 police officers, about 30 coastguards, and 20 Dartmoor Search and Rescue volunteers.

"We have had a variety of units working very hard in the area, including specialist units, dog units, the police helicopter, coastguard rescue teams and the coastguard helicopter has been twice.

"At this stage the police search is going to carry on indefinitely."

Martin Ringrose, interim director of human resources at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are aware that one of our junior doctors is missing.

"Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this very distressing time.

"We will do whatever we can to support the authorities investigating her disappearance and searching for her, as well as providing support to her colleagues, who are anxious for her wellbeing."
