Massive rave will be held on Welsh farm this weekend

Hundreds of dance music fans are to converge on a farm outside Merthyr Tydfil this weekend for a massive rave - in a barn.

The House and Techno event will be staged by the Cardiff dance music promoter famed for hosting raves in a bank vault in one of the city’s most historic buildings.

Cellar Door, who have hosted parties for the best part of a decade, are well known for the underground dance events they threw at the former bank vault in the Grade II listed Portland House in Cardiff Bay.

The promoter has now branched out with dance music events across the south Wales Valleys.

Their latest endeavour, which Cellar Door’s DJ Jimpy describes as their “craziest party to date” is called Rave In A Barn - and it is exactly that.

The event was staged last year for the first time and it proved a so much of a hit that it's returning.

Dubbed Cellar Door at the Barn Merthyr Part II,  the rave will be staged at the 500 capacity Fern Hill Farm barn.

“This years Cellar Door visit to the farm features a brand new sound system supplied by Martin Audio, the very same audio company which is heard all across Glastonbury including the Pyramid stage," said Jimpy. “The sound system not only brings an even greater clarity of sound over last years event, which was already special, but provides a high degree of noise mitigation control. This ensures the sound is focused on the event and not on the surrounding area using state of the art technology.”

The Cellar Door promoters also have promised a brand new lighting show from SR Productions and the best South Wales DJ’s playing House and Techno into the night.

The event also features a bar, free parking, security, cloakroom facilities, outdoor barn heaters and medical facilities.

Jimpy has been involved with the south Wales dance music scene since the early 90’s infamous Hippo Club and later Enter the Dragon at Vision 2k.

He also had tracks featured on hugely popular mix albums from Sasha, and Paul van Dyk as well making DJ Magazine's Top 100.

“Until last year it had been many years since I DJ’ed in a barn,” he recalled. “I remember a farm event towards Cardiff Airport back in the ‘90s, which was class and I think we can recapture some of that old skool magic once again with what we have planned for this event.

“Over the last nine years we have staged Cellar Door events in Cardiff at the Vaults, Missoula, Cube and Clwb Ifor Bach and then in more recent times outside Cardiff at Club ICE - Pontypridd, Koolers - Merthyr and The New Griffin - Brynmawr.

“Everywhere we have taken our party, we have been well received and it is really exciting to finish off the summer in style with our return to the Rave In A Barn.

“One of the really nice aspects about this event is that even though it is outside, it is fully under cover and so we don’t have to worry about the weather,” said the DJ.

“I really expect this event to be very special.”

Cellar Door at the Barn Merthyr Part II is held on Saturday, August 3 from 3pm until 2am, with campers allowed to arrive from 1pm.

Tickets are priced £20. Camping tickets are also priced £20 for a space up to five people. Tickets can be purchased via www.cellardoorcardiff.com/#tickets
