Massive queues form outside Primark just hours after two-week lockdown ends in Wales

Primark was hit by a tsunami of shoppers with people queueing outside its Cardiff store just hours after the end of the two-week lockdown.

Colossal queues wrapped around the Primark store this morning as non-essential shops reopened in Wales following a two-week fire-break lockdown.

Bargain hunters filed the pavement as they lined up at a social distance outside the store in anticipation of its grand reopening at 9am.

The mass surge sparked concerns whether First Minister Mark Drakeford lifted the lockdown too soon, Wales Online reports.

Wales' health minister said cases are levelling off after its 17-day lockdown.

Pubs, restaurants, and other non-essential businesses are also allowed to reopen from today.

Similar queues formed inside the Primark store two weeks ago as shoppers queued to bag last minute purchases before the closure of non-essential retail.

By 11pm, the main high street was full of people carrying their shopping bags and the queue of Primark continued to grow.

Wales entered a two-week fire-break lockdown on October 23 which came to an end today, on November 9.

People in Wales are now asked to follow a new set of rules, which includes forming a bubble with one other household and maintain social distancing.

City centres across Wales will be open and trading for the first time in two weeks today, prompting crowds to descend upon Primark and other popular high street stores across the country.

Many retailers will be pleased to see the return of shoppers in Wales just as stores across England are closed.
