Massive queues form outside COP26 conference at Glasgow's SEC as delegates wait for hours

Massive queues have formed outside as the COP26 climate change conference at Glasgow's SEC.

Hundreds of delegates have been seen lining the streets unable to get into the venue while waiting for security checks to be carried out.

Those attending the UN summit have shared their own experiences of waiting in the blustery conditions on social media.

One journalist said on Twitter that she had been waiting for over an hour and had still not managed to reach the gates.

Another called it "utter chaos" while someone else labelled it a "monstrosity."

The Daily Record reported earlier how police could be seen lining the streets and patrolling roads as the huge event arrives in town.

Some officers could be seen overlooking the city's streets from bridges while others stood beside road closure signs.

Traffic chaos is also expected throughout Glasgow as several roads are locked down.

It comes as world leaders descend upon Glasgow for the conference, believed to be one of the largest events ever held in Scotland.

US President Joe Biden touched down in Edinburgh Airport just after 11am and will now travel across to Glasgow.

Other heads of state including French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend.

Around 30,000 delegates from over 180 countries are expected to join COP26 to discuss ways to cut CO2 emissions.
