Scores of people gathered at Jantar Mantar here on Saturday to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

People from all walks of life came out in solidarity with those opposing the new law.

Under the new law, members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 and facing religious persecution there will not be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.

Entry and exit gates at Janpath metro station were closed for nearly two hours in view of the protest.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had closed entry and exit gates of the station after a police advisory.

“Entry & exit gates at all stations have been opened. Normal services have resumed in all stations,” the DMRC tweeted.

On December 13 also, Patel Chowk and Janpath metro stations were closed for over an hour owing to protests against the amended Citizenship Act.

The stations were closed following a Delhi Police advisory in view of the protest march by Jamia Millia Islamia students from the university campus to Parliament to express their opposition to the controversial legislation.
