'Massive' pothole blights Maryhill road as rain and winds batter Glasgow

Locals have been urged to take caution due to a pothole in Maryhill.

A picture shared by community group No1Seem2Care shows a water-filled crater in the bus lane on Maryhill Road, across from the Esso garage before Queen Margaret Drive.

The post read: "Local! Be minded of this! 'Massive pot hole has opened up on Maryhill Road across from Esso garage just before Q Margaret Drive."

Locals complained the pothole has been an issue for some time, with one bus driver describing the hole as "brutal."

Another added: "It's always been like this and it just crumbles up again every time they fix it."

Glasgow Live shared reports of a huge pothole causing three cars to burst their tyres in just 20 minutes at the junction of Auchinlea Road and Gartloch Road behind Glasgow Fort.

Another pothole on Balmuildy Road in the north of the city claimed five car tyres in a row in November.

We previously out to Glasgow City Council for comment, who responded that their system focuses on reducing temporary repairs, but that means repairs can take longer to be completed.

A spokeswoman said: “Our risk-based approach to road repairs allow us to target our resources more effectively and focuses resources on getting repairs right first time around.

“Winter can be a particularly challenging time for road conditions with rain, snow and ice coupled with low temperatures always likely to cause problems.

“But it is intended the policy helps to minimise money spent on often ineffective temporary patches and help divert more resources to getting repairs right first time around.

“The policy does mean that it can take longer for repairs to be completed, but it will ultimately lead to overall improvements in the city’s road network.

“We would ask anyone who notes a defect to report this to us as soon as possible.”
