Oct. 05--Arson investigators are looking into the cause of a massive industrial fire that erupted Monday morning in Huntington Park and sent a black plume of smoke over Los Angeles.
About 50 firefighters were tackling flames, which erupted at 9:06 a.m. at a commercial building in the 5600 block of Soto Street near East Slauson Avenue, said Fire Inspector Randall Wright of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The intense heat and flames forced firefighters to quickly exit the building and battle the blaze from the outside, he said. A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital, fire Inspector David Dantic said.
Firefighters used extended hoselines to douse the flames at the metal clad building after a part of the roof collapsed. The thick plume could be seen several miles away.
An investigation is underway into what sparked the blaze inside the storage facility.
The storage facility was closed for the day and no employees were expected at work, Dantic said.
As the smoke lingered in the immediate area, firefighters asked residents and employees in the area to stay indoors.
