Massive haul of cocaine found hidden in lorry during Border Force raid near docks

A massive haul of cocaine was found hidden inside a lorry when police dogs and Border Force carried out raids close to the docks.

Two men were arrested were officers stopped two lorries in the Sefton area of Merseyside on Friday, November 13.

The first lorry was travelling along Princess Way, in Seaforth, at around 6.30pm when it was pulled over by police.

Following an intense search of the HGV by the dog unit, Port Police and Border Force, 5kg of cocaine was found hidden inside it.

The driver was arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

According to Merseyside Police, 30 year old Andrew Cousins from Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, has since been charged and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday morning.

He was remanded in custody until Decemebr 14.

Shortly after the first lorry was stopped, a second HGV was also raided by police on Derby Road in Bootle.

Here another 30-year-old man, from the same area of Northern Ireland, was also arrested.

He was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. He has since been released on police bail until next month.

A joint investigation is ongoing.

Pictures issued by officers show the police force and other agencies searching the lorries after they were stopped in Merseyside.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Anyone that knows the whereabouts of drugs, how they are being transported from place to place and who is involved in this, should get in touch as a matter of urgency to keep our communities safe."
