Massive fire near Duke Street as east end residents hear 'huge explosion'

Fire crews have raced to the scene of a massive blaze near Duke Street.

East end residents report having heard a huge explosion, while several have posted pictures of smoke billowing into the sky across Glasgow.

Eyewitness reports and video suggest the fire is coming from the old scrapyard near Todd Street, close to the former Joanna Dee's nightclub, however this yet to be confirmed by police or the fire service.

Meanwhile pictures show police have closed off the roads in the surrounding area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live: "We're in the vicinity of Duke Street in Glasgow we're attending a derelict building on fire.

"We got quite a lot of repeat calls in around 8.40pm."

Glasgow Live have also contacted Police Scotland for comment.
