Massive fire in Blantyre sends huge plumes of black smoke across the sky

A massive fire in Blantyre has left huge black plumes of smoke across the sky.

The blaze broke out at a derelict building in Carlowrie Avenue, Blantyre, on Sunday afternoon before 3pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene as thick black smoke could be seen from miles away.

Four Scottish Fire and Rescue crews raced to the building and remain on the scene as they continue to tackle the flames.

There are no reports of any injuries.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "We received reports of a derelict building on fire in Carlowrie Avenue in Blantyre around 3pm.

"We have four appliances in attendance".
