A massive fire has destroyed a barn in Swansea.

Flames could be seen in the sky as fire crews battled the blaze for five hours on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning (July 27 and 28).

The fire started at the derelict building near Chemical Road in the Morriston area of the city, and the cause is now "under investigation".

Crews will return on Wednesday morning to inspect in case of re-ignition.

A statement from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said: "The police were also in attendance. The cause of the fire is under investigation."

A local resident said they first say the fire around 10pm in the file opposite Lidl.

He said: "The field has several galvanised roof sheds for keeping hay and other things for horses on the field. They are very close to a residential area.

"The flames were between 20 and 30 metres high. The fire service couldn't get into the field when they arrived so they ended up using a crane to pump water on the shed. They worked until 3am to stop the fire spreading to nearby homes."
