Massive fire breaks out in Ibiza as black smoke billows across San Antonio

A massive has broken out at an Ibiza tourist hotspot causing some homes to be evacuated.

Black smoke billowed out from the fire in the Spanish island's San Antonio district earlier today.

The flames are said to have 'taken power' in just minutes due to the hot temperatures, according to The Mirror .

Local media is reporting that it is a forest fire, however this has not been confirmed.

Stunned beach goers were seen watching the smoke, with fire burning an area of vegetation near to a number of hotels.

Witnesses have shared dramatic videos of dark smoke clouds on social media while the fire rages in the distance.

Helicopters using water are seen circling the area, trying to control the blaze.

Many commended the emergency services who are trying to fight the fire.

One wrote: "Well done to emergency services, firefighters, planes, helicopters for getting water so fast to the fire in Ibiza. 

"Hope under control soon and no casualties or injuries (sic)."

One tweeted : "Huge fire in Ibiza, smoke everywhere and it keeps on spreading. I hope everyone’s ok ."

Another said: "Fire in San Antonio Bay Ibiza. Seems bad. Hope all is ok."

"Large fire in San Antonio Bay in Ibiza," another added.

"Planes and helicopters are using water to try and control.

"Hope everyone staying closer than us are safe."

Local reports say two airplanes, three helicopters, 26 fire brigades and environmental agents have been deployed.
