'Massive' explosion in Dewsbury leaves 'nothing left' of house

A house has been ripped apart in a suspected gas explosion in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, injuring two people.

Shocking CCTV obtained by Mirror Online shows the moment an explosion ripped through the home, before it was engulfed by flames with the force of the explosion ripping the roof off.

A 55-year-old man in the house was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries caused by the incident.

Another male who suffered a head injury after being struck by debris was treated at the scene. He was later taken to hospital for further treatment to the injury which is not life threatening.

An image posted on Twitter shows the property torn apart by the blast, with the interior of the house exposed.

Emergency services are at the scene in Ravensthorpe and fire dogs have now deployed to the scene, to see if anyone remains inside the property.

In a statement to Yorkshire Live, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 11.37 to reports of an explosion at a property on Crescent Walk.

"We have crews at the scene from, Cleckheaton Mirfield, Dewsbury, Rastrick, Ossett and Morley plus the aerial appliance from Wakefield."

Tracey Watts who live nearby said on Facebook: "It was bad enough to rattle the windows.

"It was quite a bang. Just hope everyone is okay."

And Brownwyn Bennett added: "My dog ran upstairs acting like it was bonfire night. Now I know why."

Speaking about the images that are being shared, Sammy Cooper added: "Gosh there’s literally nothing left of the house."

Charlotte Stevens added: "I was sat in the living room and all of a sudden the whole house shook, and me and my mum were running around thinking something had fallen upstairs.

"We walked outside and the street is full of people who live among us in panic, since a house has blown up."

A police spokesman said initial enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
