Massive cyber attack by hackers on Labour Party website fails

Hackers have mounted a massive cyber attack targeting the Labour Party's website today - with just a month to go until the General Election.

The party said it had been subjected to a "large-scale attempted cybert attack" on its platforms, but said the attempts had "failed" and there had been no data breach.

Some campaigning activities have temporarily slowed, but the systems are now back up to speed on Tuesday morning.

In a statement, it said: "We have experience a sophisticated and large-scale cyber attack on Labour digital platforms.

"We took swift action and these attempts failed due to our robust security systems.

"The integrity of all our platforms was maintained and we are confident that no data breach occurred.

"Our security procedures have slowed down some of our campaign activities, but these were restored this morning and we are back up to full speed."

The Labour Party has reported the matter to the National Cyber Security Centre.

The attack was reportedly a Distribute Deniable of Service Attack - which means websites are bombarded with large volumes of traffic until they collapse.

It is thought to be a crude attempt to bring down the party's website.
