Massive cannabis farm hidden in building at one of city's busiest junctions

A massive cannabis farm was hidden inside a building at one of the city's busiest junctions.

Police busted the farm this week after it was put in place at an abandoned site in Kirkdale.

Officers and forensic officers were seen dismantling the farm at the junction of Stanley Road, Commercial Road and Melrose Road.

It is one of the busiest road junctions in the city and it is likely that thousands of people have driven past the cannabis farm on a daily basis.

According to Merseyside Police, over 1,000 plants were found inside and officers are appealing for the public to inform them on where others have been set up.

In a post on their Facebook page, officers from Walton Lane station said: "Good Evening from Walton Lane Local Policing.

"We have located and dismantled another cannabis farm in the Kirkdale area.

"This one containing over 1000 plants.

"Know where any more are?

"Call us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Speaking previously about cannabis production and farms in Merseyside, a spokesperson for the force said: "Cannabis farms within our communities cause so much risk and harm, and it's good news for those in the area that this one has been removed, and a man arrested.

"The growth, storage and sale of cannabis brings many risks to our communities, including the fire risk that overloading the electricity inevitably causes.

"Drug supply is also closely linked to serious organised criminals and violence, and in removing such farms, we’re making your communities safer.

"Keep your eyes, ears and noses out for the signs that cannabis is being grown where you are, and we will keep taking this positive action.
