Massive boost for train passengers as ALL toilet charges at stations scrapped

After moves to remove charges at 3 major northern stations last year, Network Rail has revealed it will now be free to use the facilities everywhere.

Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said: “Scrapping toilet charges is a welcome step for passengers.

"Toilets are a priority for improvement at stations according to our research and will signal the end of fumbling around in your pocket for change to spend a penny.”

The facilities at Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street have been free to use since December 17.

Passengers were charged 40p to use the toilets at Leeds station, while Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street have 30p fees.

Where was it already free to pee?

The move to scrap charges at Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street comes more than two years after they were scrapped at London's Victoria and Charring Cross stations.

Stations at Birmingham New Street, Bristol Temple Meads, London Cannon Street, London Bridge, Reading, London St Pancras also have free access to the facilities.

Stations that charged to use the loo until this week included London's King's Cross, Euston, Liverpool Street, Paddington and Waterloo as well as Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central.
