Massive ‘bomb’ found at Scots beauty spot as emergency services lock down beach

A Scots beach has been cordoned off after a massive ‘bomb’ washed ashore following stormy weather.

The alarming discovery was made in Uig on the Isle of Lewis yesterday before emergency services were called to the scene.

Members of the public have been told to steer clear of the nearby area while bomb disposal experts travel to the island in the Outer Hebrides.

Coastguard teams were called to the scene after the discovery was made on Monday (HM Coastguard - West Isles, Skye and Lochaber)

Pictures released by HM Coastguard - West Isles, Skye and Lochaber show the large metal item which is believed to be unexploded ordnance.

A statement from the rescue team said: “Miavaig, Breasclete, Ness & Bragar Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked to reports of ordnance found on the shoreline in Uig, Isle of Lewis.

“Explosive Ordnance Unit and Faslane have been contacted and the area cordoned and manned until their arrival.

“Members of the public are asked to stay clear of the area until after the item has been disposed of.”

Police Scotland were not called to the incident with the Coastguard leading the operation.
