Massive bear tries to escape out of window after stealing homeowner's pork chops

This is the incredible moment a massive bear is seen trying to escape out of a window after it broke into a family's home to steal some pork chops.

The daring bear let himself in to the family's home in Colorado, US, and tucked into a tasty snack before trying to escape from a second-floor window.

The huge beast was caught on video by neighbour, Heidi Hannah, who then called the police for help when she realised no one was home.

To enter the home, in Steamboat Springs, the bear tore through a downstairs window and made his way through the house before attempting his top floor escape.

Footage shows the unwanted minutes trying to swing from the window in an attempt to drop to the ground but ultimately decides the drop is too far.

The large brown bear decides to go back inside through his initial entry point before disappearing into the woods.

Ryan MacFarlane, the owner of the invaded home, was at work when he learned the bear was in his home.

“He got his nails in there and just ripped that window right open, and got inside and helped himself to my pork chops I had out for dinner that night, got some snacks out of the pantry and knocked over the plants — nothing too crazy,” he told Fox31 news.

Luckily no one was hurt during the incident and there wasn't too much damage to the home.

“Grateful that he was a respectful house guest,” Mr MacFarlane added.

A spokesperson from Colorado Parks and Wildlife said now it is bear season there may be more sightings like this.

Bears are mostly seen during the fall months, when they're trying to bulk up for winter.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife representative said that bears are generally opportunistic and when on the hunt for food, will often opt for the most accessible option available.

To avoid intrusions from wildlife they recommend locking up trash bins, making sure windows and doors are closed, and that food is not easily accessible - in some cases, this may include gardens.
