Massachusetts State Representative resigns to lead the Alliance for Business Leadership

Massachusetts State Representative Jennifer Benson (D) resigned on January 8, 2020, after representing the 37th Middlesex District for 10 years. Benson resigned from state House to lead the Alliance for Business Leadership, a non-partisan coalition of business leaders focused on economic development in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

A special election to fill the 37th Middlesex District seat has been scheduled for March 31, 2020. The primary election for this race is on March 3, 2020. The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Benson’s term, which is set to end in January 2021.

During her time in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Benson served as the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing and as the Chair of the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Joint Committee.

Benson will begin her new role as the President of the Alliance for Business Leadership on January 13, 2020.
