Mass brawl breaks out in Newport city centre as revellers turn on each other

A massive fight broke out in Newport city centre over the weekend.

It is the second brawl filmed in as many weeks after video previosuly emerged showing a woman being punched hard in the face and falling to the floor as she tried to break up a fight in Newport 's Cambrian Road.

Now more footage has emerged of another brawl in nearby High Street.

A man can be seen on the floor, trying to stand up, as several men kick him. Shouting can be heard in the background as more people join the fight.

Both roads are at the centre of Newport's nightlife, with several bars and nightclubs in the area.

An eyewitness said she saw another fight in the same spot five minutes prior to that one.

"All I saw last night was fighting," she said. "Disgusting."

In recent years, there have been several incidents of serious violence in Newport's city centre and, last year, a teenage driver drove into a crowd of people after a fight broke out outside the Courtyard nightclub in Cambrian Road, leaving two women with serious injuries.

Also last year, two teenagers were locked up in a young offender's institution after a brawl outside a nightclub in what the judge called "another example of young people engaged in drunken, violent behaviour".

Gwent Police were contacted for comment.
