A mass brawl broke out between security and bettors at Newport racecourse on Saturday.
The fight reportedly lasted 20 minutes, with one man even picking up a table - apparently to use as a weapon - during the distressing scenes.
In a video recorded of the brawl, a man attempts to punch a security guard while another has blood on his shirt.
The fight allegedly started in the betting ring, where legendary jockey Jamie Spencer rode 40-1 outsider Bedouin’s Story to victory in the bet365 Cambridgeshire event.
Fighting broke out in the bars as the ugly scenes began to spread, with one man reportedly seen ‘with a cloth to his head and blood on the back of his shirt.’
A woman recorded the brawl and condemned the actions of those involved.
She said: “First trip back to Newmarket in two years, and these idiots ruined a family day out.
“This fight started in the betting ring and then spilled in the O&T bar.
“The poor security staff, and racegoers that had to witness it! Nasty thugs that shouldn't be allowed on a racecourse again!
“It went on for 20 minutes and was clearly brewing before, it was not dealt with quickly. People were using furniture as weapons.”
Security eventually succeeded in breaking up the fight, but the woman - who labelled those involved as ‘disgusting, vile creatures’ and called for them to be banned for life - that recorded the fight suggested there was not enough security personnel to control the situation. and no arrests were made.
Jockey Rosie Margarson claimed the behaviour of some fans made her ‘nervous’.
After the event, a Newmarket racecourse spokesperson said: “There was an isolated disturbance after racing had concluded, which was quickly dealt with by security.
“The matter was referred to Suffolk Police as such behaviour is unacceptable.
“Otherwise, nearly 7,000 spectators enjoyed a fantastic day at Newmarket without incident.”
This is the second incident at a domestic racecourse in recent months, as a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, causing actual bodily harm and cocaine possession during a fight at Goodwood in August.
